Google Sitemaps is now Google Webmaster Tools and it’s sporting some shiny new tools. This is where you want to spend time now to learn about Google’s indexing and crawling habits of your URL/’s.

To use Google’s webmaster tools requires a simple verification process by either adding a metatag to a page or by copying an html file to the root www directory. Once you have been verified and stop looking at Googlebot’s most recent visit and then your top indexed content you will find Google now allows you to tell them your preference for indexing your domain by using www or not, “www.yourdomain.com” vs. “yourdomain.com”.

Of coarse Sitemaps and all this other information is available free, and then some, crawling errors, query stats for all subfolders, help in diagnosing problems, validation of the robots.txt file, top queries, which pages are indexed… etc. All this in an interface that accepts multiple domains and a new webmaster blog to boot! Get started.
