Spam are annoying emails from persons or organizations who are trying to sell a product or service. Since the internet has gained popularity, spam has become an increasing problem for those who use the internet often. Many mailboxes now offer email spam blocker software that will mail all unidentified email to a person’s bulk email folder. This will free up space in their main folder and also allow a person to delete what they don’t want faster. Email spam blockers are available for instant download at very affordable prices.

An email spam blocker is important for several reasons. The first is storage space, many mailboxes can only store a limited amount of mail. Since spam can take up space, a spam blocker will not allow large files into the main mail folder. The second reason is to keep potentially harmful spam from being opened. Sometimes spam can contain a virus that can be harmful to a computer. The third reason is that people do not want to spend their time reading lengthy advertisements for products they are not going to purchase.

An email spam blocker can be turned on and off by the email user. There are different settings that will allow certain spam to get through and keep other spam out. It is important that a person not open mail from those they do not know. Also, do not give out personal information in case of identity theft. Always delete email spam immediately. These days, most email accounts will delete spam that has been in the folder for thirty days. This storage does not count toward the email accounts total amount of storage. But it is still wise to delete spam when it is delivered. Still, spam may get into a person’s main mail folder. Do not open it and delete it right away to avoid damage to the computer.

Yahoo have signed a newspaper content and advertising deal with 7 US newspaper groups, totaling 176 regional newspapers. The newspaper groups included in the deal are Cox Newspapers Inc, E.W.Scripps Co and MediaNews Group Inc. The deal primarily involves the partnership of jobs adverts. Yahoo’s HotJobs Classified Jobs will be supplying the newspapers online section with content as from December 2006, whilst the newspapers will be selling their jobs adverts on Yahoo’s HotJobs. With Monster taking more and more of the jobs market, this will be a big hit back from the web giant Yahoo.

Profits dwindle
This move by Yahoo could not have been more timely. With Yahoo’s shares dropping nearly 40% in October, the company has obviously been losing the online battle with competitors like Google. More than 500 million people visit Yahoo’s web network each month and this will certainly help them to capture more of the market. Whilst the deal looks primarily at Jobs advertising, the potential for providing content both for Yahoo and the Newspapers is huge. Content such as news, advertising and search could then be provided by Yahoo to these newspapers as part of the deal.

Local Advertising
Analysts have recently criticised Yahoo’s lack of innovation and this shows with the fall in shares. Although one area that Yahoo has not performed in recently is local search. This newspaper deal will certainly boost the local search mechanism for Yahoo and will drive more people to the web services that Yahoo provide.

Google take the lead
Whilst the newspaper deal by Yahoo looks like a great move by Yahoo, Google announced in November that it was to sell advertising space in print editions of 50 US newspapers including The New York Times. Whilst this is different to Yahoo’s initial deal, Yahoo could end up selling advertising space in print editions too.

Microsoft, on December 5, 2006, released Security Advisory (929433) warning of a limited zero-day attack using a vulnerability in Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Word 2002, Microsoft Office Word 2003, Microsoft Word Viewer 2003, Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, and Microsoft Word v. X for Mac, as well as Microsoft Works 2004, 2005, and 2006. Personally the last M$ explorer (reported by M$ as “limited”) zero day attack made it right on to 2 my of systems that are patrolled by nothing less than an arsenal of hardware and software security. IMO: MS had plenty of time to release their patch and by the time I found out about the flaw it was too late. So, I don’t like the way M$ is handling their flaws. Put your people on the fix NOW before your vulnerable software affects the very people that make your extravagant life possible!

M$’s overview of this new flaw:

Purpose of Advisory: To provide customers with initial notification of the publicly disclosed vulnerability. For more information see the Workarounds and Mitigations and Suggested Actions section of the security advisory.

Advisory Status: Under Investigation.

Recommendation: Do not open or save Word files that you receive from un-trusted or that are received unexpected from trusted sources. This vulnerability could be exploited when a user opens a file.

I love the recommendation! Deja vu… yah buddy! How many cries and screams of horror will this one produce.

Billy Gates, please put vulnerability patching on your highest order list! You already have our money.
